Background Information

Mrs. West has over 24 years of educational experience, with over 20 years working with Wayne County Public Schools. She began her career in 1993 as a high school science teacher at Southern Wayne High School. In 2007, she was named a district-level Teaching and Learning Coach. In 2011, Mrs. West was named the K-12 Lead Science Teacher for the district. She was named Elementary Curriculum Specialist for Carver Heights Elementary School in 2012.  In March of 2016, West was promoted to Principal of Northeast Elementary school.  Since 2010, she has served as a Per Diem Science Content Expert for Thinking Maps, Inc., providing training to school systems across North Carolina, Georgia, Florida and Virginia. Two years prior to being named Principal, she served as the Lead Elementary Curriculum Specialist for the WCPS Summer Reading Camp.

In addition to having served the school through her various district-level support roles, Mrs. West has a personal history with the school.  Her sons attended Northeast Elementary when they were children and she is honored to once again be part of the Northeast family.

Mrs. West holds a bachelor’s degree in Biology, a Secondary Teacher Certification, an Academically and Intellectually Gifted Certification, a master’s degree in School Administration and a certification in Curriculum and Instruction.
